...and in my update, I added a tutorials section to the site. Last night I decided to learn how to make faux wax stamps for my wedding invitations, and after seeing a lot of (bad) advice out there, especially sites saying how "tricky" it was to end up with a good seal, I decided to post up my experience, which was that it was super easy, and looks really, really nice.
In addition, I wanted to add that I finally got my own Kitchenaid stand mixer, however I missed the Kohl's sale that I posted about. Instead, I went to the Kitchen Collection store in my local mall, and ended up getting a manufacturer refurbished 5.5 quart professional model. Wow. That's all I can say. That sucker is a trooper. It handled the cheesecake batter like it was nothing, and I was super impressed. I can see it will be getting a LOT of use, and it was only $199! So if you missed the sale too, and are still wanting one, GO GET IT! www.kitchencollection.com I got it in-store, but they have them online too, with $7.99 shipping right now!
For those who just read that and are going, "Yeah, but it's refurbished, which means something was wrong with it!" Let me say this: I prefer refurb items. Seriously. Let me tell you why.
Refurbished means it was returned. Not that it was broken. Returned. If an item is factory refurbished (and that distinction is IMPORTANT!!) it means that the factory had to completely gut it, and rebuild it with brand new parts, but the outer housing is kept. So what if the mixer you buy might have a scratch in the paint? If you're getting a $500 mixer for $200, and still getting a warranty (yes, mine has a full 6-month warranty on it!), the Kitchenaid brand, and the fact that refurbished items are typically tested 5-10x longer/harder than brand new items, it's realistically the better deal. Same goes for computers, electronics (especially electronics, actually!) and lots of other stuff. So definitely, go out there and get one! My local store had it in the red and the silver, and I got the silver, just 'cause red isn't one of my favorite colors. It came with all the same attachments, as well: the 5qt stainless bowl with handle, the flat beater, wire whisk, and the dough hook. So worth it. And if you don't want the bowl-lift style mixer like mine, they have the Artisan ones as well, in most colors, for the same price.
Oh, and if you're wondering, I get no kickbacks off of it. I just absolutely am in LOVE with my new mixer, and think everyone should have one. I'm even coming up with things to make, jus
