So obviously the picture isn't of the actual rolls I made, but dangit, if you've ever eaten Golden Corral's rolls, you know how delicious they are! I found a recipe online (keyingredient.com!) and decided to try them. Now, I've tried these before, but I have carpal tunnel, and hand kneading is difficult for me to do long enough to be really effective. Soooo... I pulled out the new Kitchenaid, and gave the dough hook a whirl!
First off, let me just say OMG, that was awesome! I didn't even really pre-mix anything except the liquid ingredients before combining everything in the mixer's bowl. After the liquid stuff was prepped, I put it all in the mixer bowl, turned it to 2, and let it go! As I've never had a stand mixer before, much less used one with a dough hook, I wondered if that coiled piece of metal would really be able to mix everything properly to get the dough to a kneading stage. Let me tell you, if you've ever wondered, IT DOES!
Now, I'm quite sure there are people reading going, "Well, duh!" but hey, I'm a stand mixer novice, and I'm learning. :) I'm sure there are plenty of others as clueless as I am, too!
I'm just posting the recipe link, since it's all laid out so prettily there and everything, and if you like GC's rolls, I highly recommend this recipe! The only difference between mine and their recipe, was I used honey with the yeast instead of sugar, and it gave the rolls a nice sweet, but not overly sweet flavor.
Now, if I could only find
